Nightfall
AI-Native Data Loss Prevention · January 2023 – February 2024
How a cybersecurity SaaS platform built ranking authority through targeted link insertions and grew organic traffic 287% in 13 months.
Strong product.
Thin authority profile.
Nightfall is an AI-native data loss prevention platform — protecting sensitive data across SaaS apps, email, and endpoints. Backed by $60M in funding from Venrock and Bain Capital Ventures, the product had market validation. What it lacked was organic search authority.
In the cybersecurity SaaS space, competitors like Forcepoint, Digital Guardian, and Symantec had decades of domain authority and thousands of referring domains. Nightfall's content was strong, but without a critical mass of contextual backlinks pointing to key product and blog pages, it couldn't compete for the high-intent terms that drive demo requests.
Targeted authority to key pages.
Contextual Placements on Relevant Tech Sites
We placed contextual links on existing articles across cybersecurity, cloud computing, SaaS, and business technology sites. Each placement was selected for topical relevance — the surrounding content had to align naturally with Nightfall's core topics: data security, endpoint protection, cloud DLP, and remote work security.
Unlike Digital PR, which builds domain-wide authority through branded mentions, this campaign was surgical — directing link equity to specific product pages, use-case pages, and high-value blog content that were ready to rank with the right authority signals behind them.
